Just wanted to let you know how much ChiTag 2007 was beneficial to helping us understand the gaming industry. My husband and I were very impressed with the Ask the Expert Panel as well as the various seminars. The Ask the Expert individuals we spoke with not only provided us with constructive feedback, they helped us to understand how we can better improve our current JamboNation board game. The seminars we attended, such as the Inventor's Forum and The Retailer's Round Table, helped us to understand the inner workings of the game and toy industry, thus helping us to tweak our current business plan.

As you know, I have been in the toy industry for 18 years with Manhattan Toy, Applause, and Ty (beanie babies) usually as a top salesman. Now I find myself as the president of a growing start up game and toy company, and am I so glad I found you! 

Our organization was faced with the enormous costs of creating, presenting and staffing even a small Toy Fair booth with a projected expense of over $10,000! I am very happy to recommend a membership in Discover Games. I think the new member rate of $1000 for one year at the gold level (renewing members receive a discount) is a great deal. I know $1,000 (?82 - for our company in England) may sound a lot, but the renewal is only $750 and each new game can be added for only $200. The subscription includes:

1. inclusion in the NY Toy Fair, GAMA and CHITAG on the Discover Games booth
2. access to the members area of the website, where people exchange info about retailers, bar codes, storage, printing, new shows etc (The website has long lists of distributors and agents across the US.)
3. regular updates on the competitions and awards available to help build profile in the industry and well as a range of other helpful information and contacts and
4. co-op mailing to retailers, catalog houses and media (only the hard costs are split, not the labor to put it together).

Although folks can't turn up on DG booth and push their own game, they are always welcome to come to the exhibitions and Discover Games member dinners held in connection with the events, which adds to the networking.

We are renewing for our 3rd year, even though we already show ourselves at the 3 shows listed. We figure there is never too much exposure! DG's booth is a booth industry professionals across the spectrum (licensors, ma & pop retailers, distributors, large chains, etc) make a point of visiting each year to see what's new. The staff on DG's booth knows the industry (Mary Couzin who runs DG has been in the business for more than 15 years) - they know who buys what, how they evaluate games, & how to approach them afterwards. For NY and GAMA they send out a list of everyone who came to their booth with 'general' interest so inventors can follow up later. They also take down the details of anyone particularly interested in your product and send you that info as well.

Mary is a great resource, and we've become good friends. Even before we were friends, Mary made herself available for phone calls at 6:30 in the morning her time and on weekends. She never takes sides, and she is always good about spelling out the options.

I can't speak highly enough of the service.

At the beginning of my marketing endeavor for SpectraMaze (a 3D logic-maze puzzle book), I was challenged by how to successfully reach the proper people in the industry. I then found Discover Games through a search engine and things will be changed forever.

My biggest obstacle was how to be represented at the proper trade shows. How does a one man operation attend a major show like Toy Fair while covering all expenses like booth space, airfare, hotel and booth manpower without loosing his shirt? Impossible! This is where Discover Games was a light at the end of the tunnel.

I was looking for someone to give me a presence at Toy Fair generating interested contacts but without giving up control of my product’s destiny. Discover Games fit the bill so perfectly at such a great price it was hard to believe that it was true. After doing extensive searching for other companies to provide a similar service, I couldn’t find a single provider of this service to independent designers. Discover Games was not only the BEST choice it was the ONLY choice. With all the tools and resources available to members, I wouldn’t know what to do without it.

2001 was my first Toy Fair, and what a SUCCESS! As a direct result of Discover Games’ efforts at the show, SpectraMaze was hand selected by the editor of GAMES Magazine for review in the July edition. I was also given hundreds of good retailer leads. What a fantastic show!
