| Sometimes the best ideas
come from other games. You can imitate how a game plays
(the game's "engine") but change the
characters, settings or circumstances. It has been done
hundreds of times with Monopoly, changing the "real
estate" to real life locations like Hollywood or Las
Vegas. If you make a game that is similar to another and you plan to sell it, that's where you'll have to be careful. Copyrights and patents protect game inventors to some degree. You'll have to do some research or get help from a patent attorney if you want to market your game. Information about patents, trademarks and copyrights readily available on the internet.
